Whale Fal

Whale Fall follows four estranged siblings connected only by their mother. Morgan is the oldest daughter from a pregnancy when Mom was in college. She was given up for adoption but had little contact and knew just the idea of her mother. Gwen is the next oldest, a step-daughter from a previous relationship, Mom helped raise her from five and left when she was six. She is the maternal one of the group who arranges the dinner, or should we say feast, for all the siblings to come together and remember Mom. Cordelia is the closest child to mom and adopted. Lastly we have Trent, the youngest child who is a product of an egg donation.  Mom was a marine biologist who studied whales and the ocean ecosystem. She was adventurous, fun and a free spirit. She has only been gone for a month. Gwen in her grieving, tracked down all the siblings and invited them to dinner at her home. Whale Fall is what happens at dinner when the siblings are finally together processing the death of their mom and her impact on their lives.

Moon Over Buffalo

In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me A Tenor, Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with 5 actors. Down on their luck doesn’t begin to describe it.

But the great movie director Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he just might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel.  Naked ambition takes over as George and Charlotte do everything in their power to make Capra love them.

Moon Over Buffalo marked Carol Burnett’s triumphant return to Broadway after 30 years, and she and her co-star Phil Bosco (both nominated for Tonys for their roles) were followed on Broadway by Lynn Redgrave and Robert Goulet, then in London by Joan Collins and Frank Langella.  Since that time, there has never been a season of theater in the world without Moon Over Buffalo.

Anna Karenina

Adaptation by Helen Edmundson from Leo Tolstoy's novel

Directed by Josh Horowitz

Married to a provincial governor, the punctilious Alexei Karenin, Anna revolts against her life of compromise when she meets the charming officer Count Vronsky. She embarks on a scandalous affair, which completely destroys her family life and brings her to the brink of destruction. Interspersed with Anna’s tragic downfall is the story of Levin, an idealistic landowner striving to find meaning in his life – a character often seen as a self-portrait of Tolstoy himself. Edmundson's adaptation illuminates the story's grand pattern: how the adulterous Anna travels towards disintegration and death, while the young landowner, Levin, travels toward maturity and a sense of wholeness.

 ï»¿February 9-14 Mary Stuart

A conflict raged for 20 years between Elizabeth of England and Mary Stuart, during which the destiny of England as an independent nation of free people trembled in the balance. Elizabeth struggles over whether to keep her cousin Mary alive or to execute her. Each course seems to be of equal peril. The play is by turns a testament to human bravery and personal dignity; a conflict between personal and political responsibility; a struggle between womanhood and statesmanship, where Mary triumphs at one and Elizabeth the other.
